Scalped #30

OK, before we get started, let’s just get this out of the way. Blackest Night #1 was great.  I gave it a 5 out of 5.  We’ll be spending plenty of time talking about it on the podcast I’m sure.  But after all was said and done, my Pick of the Week was Scalped #30.

I realized, reading this issue, that Scalped might have fallen into that “I’m getting bored with the consistent quality” trap we’ve seen on so many books.  The arcs on this title are long, and there is a lot of character development.  These are both good things.  But they can lead to a sort of droning excellence, where you turn pages, and think “that was really good,” but not so much to the point that you do any audible gasping, or make your eyes go wide.  In fact, I’d almost gotten to the point where I’d see a Scalped issue and think, “time to be depressed for a bit,” and that’s no way to be.
